ATM Cave (Actun Tunichil Muknal) was a ceremonial place of the Mayan people living in Belize. The cave used during the Classic period around AD 250-909. The Mayan believed that gods, who provided rain and agricultural fertility, resided in this underworld. The ATM Cave also offers a prize historical perspective of the Mayans. In addition, you will see many of the artifacts are exactly as they were when the cave was first explored by archaeologists. Visitors also enjoy beautiful stalagmites, stalactites, and the flowstones, Mayan artifacts, human skeleton & skulls that have been there for over 1000 years.
The ATM Tour starts at 7:30 A.M from Belize City. A drive for 1.5 hour through first the lowlands and the foothills of the Maya Mountains to the village of Teakettle. There is a 45 min. hike through pristine jungles & River crossings. Finally, swim into the cave. We spend about 3-3 ½ hour into the cave, The ATM Cave tour gets back at 4:30 p.m in Belize City.
At the ATM Cave entrance, there will be a short swim through crystal clear water, into passages filled with cave formations. Through the passages, you learn about cave geology, as you encounter stalactites and stalagmites. You then follow the flow-stone that leads into a hidden dry chamber. Here you start the tour of the Maya rituals and ceremonies, explore the remnants left and evidence of their activities. Our headlights help reveal hundreds of ancient Maya artifacts that were used in various ceremonies. You reach a breath-taking scene at the end of the ATM Cave.
From here you make your way out of the main chamber and through the jungle tour vehicle back again to Belize City four your return to San Pedro or Caye Caulker

Guests are required to catch the first San Pedro Belize Express Water Taxi to Belize City. We guarantee you will be on the 5:30pm water taxi back to San Pedro or Caye Caulker! San Pedro guests depart san pedro at 6:30am.
